Last weekend, in the neighborhood of 40,000 investors flocked to Omaha for Berkshire Hathaway 's (NYSE: BRK.A) (NYSE: BRK.B) annual shareholder meeting. The lure was simple: to hear the "Oracle of Omaha," Warren Buffett, speak about stocks, the U.S. economy, and his investing philosophy for hours on end. Since taking over as the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway in the mid-1960s, Buffett has run circles around Wall Street's broad-market stock indexes many times over.

The 3.2% Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2024 was a bit of a disappointment after the 8.7% COLA for 2023 set a 40-year high. It's been especially tough for seniors who depend heavily on their benefits, as inflation is picking up speed once again. Many are now shifting their focus to the 2025 COLA, set to be announced this fall, in the hope that it will bring some relief.

Not all high-yielding stocks are safe, but by going with established, top companies within their respective industries, you can keep your risk down while keeping your dividend income high.
I saw the following headline earlier this week: I didn’t even need to read the actual article to know what the message would be. The tell here was the term ‘veteran forecaster’ In finance-speak, veteran forecaster can be translated to mean someone who is supremely confident in their predictions but almost always wrong. It has to be this way because forecasters are so unreliable.

Far be it from me to add to your to-do list, but have you given any thought to the state of your savings? Boring topic, I know -- but absolutely essential once you're on a fixed income.

Nvidia 's a great example of today's star, climbing 215% over the past year thanks to its dominance in the artificial intelligence (AI) chip market.

Image source: Getty Images Electric vehicles (EVs) are soaring in popularity, but it's going to be a while before they're the dominant cars on the streets. Even with federal tax credits, their price tags are still averaging over $40,000, and used EVs remain rare. That doesn't mean you're stuck with a gas guzzler, though. Hybrid vehicles are a great alternative for those who want to save on gas and help the environment without going all in on an EV.

Most years, retirees get a Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). This increases the amount of their monthly benefit. In January of this year, the Senior Citizens League (TSCL) projected retirees were on track for a 1.4% increase in 2025. That estimate has changed, though. At first glance, it may seem that the shift in direction is a positive one for retirees.

And right now, the best CDs are in the 5% range, which is downright remarkable given the lows of the last decade or so. Despite such high rates, however, not everyone should run out and open a new CD.
