For nearly a decade, Russia has been threatening to exit the International Space Station and take its space station modules with it, depriving ISS of its ability to maneuver in orbit and compromising life support. Years of negotiations succeeded in convincing the Russians to stay longer than planned. Even so, in 2030, NASA says the International Space Station's service life will finally expire.
Here’s a scenario I was presented with recently: Five years ago, a relatively conservative investor was sitting on some cash and seeking a more balanced portfolio. To keep things simple, this investor split the difference between stocks and bonds by allocating 50% to equities and 50% to fixed income. Five years later there is a clear winner in terms of performance within this 50/50 portfolio: You basically doubled.
For most retirees, Social Security income is a necessity to make ends meet. Even though the average retired-worker benefit in May was only $1,916.63 (about $23,000 on an annualized basis), no social program pulls more seniors out of poverty each year than Social Security. Moreover, 23 years of annual surveys conducted by national pollster Gallup have found that 80% to 90% of retirees rely on their monthly Social Security check to cover at least some portion of their expenses.
Shares of Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) have more than doubled over the past 12 months, but Wall Street analysts who watch the big pharma company think it has more fuel in the tank. For example, J.P. Morgan recently raised its price target on Eli Lilly to $1,000 from $900, citing sales of Mounjaro and Zepbound that keep soaring. Eli Lilly will most likely report second-quarter earnings during the second week of August.
By Liz DeCarlo, MDRT Content Manager Ted Rusinoff, a 17-year MDRT member from Stow, Ohio, USA, can distill client meetings into three critical questions that will yield long-term results for both clients and advisors. He shared these questions in a ConneXion Zone presentation at the 2017 MDRT Annual Meeting: What do you own? Start by asking clients to look at what assets they have today.
Since Wall Street's major stock indexes bottomed out in October 2022, the floodgates have been wide open for optimists. The mature stock-driven Dow Jones Industrial Average , benchmark S&P 500 , and innovation-powered Nasdaq Composite have all rocketed to record-closing highs this year. However, the " Magnificent Seven " deserve most of the credit for lifting Wall Street to new heights.

Retirees will learn in mid-October how much their Social Security benefits will increase next year. Whatever the amount is, many will feel like it's not enough. And they'll probably be right. It's no secret that the way the Social Security Administration (SSA) calculates cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) doesn't reflect the increased costs for older Americans as well as it should.

When you think about iconic American brands, Nike (NYSE: NKE) and Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX) are likely to come to the top of your mind. Both companies have a long history of delivering outsized returns for shareholders, but 2024 has been a different story, with each stock down more than 20% year to date. Anytime a blue chip stock is down considerably, it's worth revisiting to determine whether it's a minor blip or a more significant downtrend.

Created in 1896, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is one of the best-known U.S. indexes. It is price-weighted, meaning its 30 components are weighted based on their stock prices rather than their market caps. This means that stock splits can have a major impact on the Dow. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) , UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) , and Goldman Sachs Group (NYSE: GS) are the three largest Dow components and all trade at over $460 a share.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has captivated investors across the board. From large institutional financial services firms to smaller retail investors, AI is playing a big role in how money is moving nowadays. What's a little surprising, however, is that capital appears to be primarily concentrated in a small basket of mega-cap technology stocks. The " Magnificent Seven " is a term used to collectively describe the world's largest tech companies -- and unsurprisingly, all of them are disrupting A

There are a few qualities that Warren Buffett is known to look for in a stock. It's known because he shares his investing wisdom freely, although he rarely explains his rationale for buying specific stocks. One of his holding company's ( Berkshire Hathaway ) less talked-about stocks is supermarket giant Kroger (NYSE: KR). But it's a classic Buffett stock and offers more than investors might realize.

Turning $1,000 into $4,000 in a decade by investing in stocks (or anything else) is no small feat. It requires a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of almost 15%. For reference, the S&P 500 's CAGR in the past decade is 13.1%, and that's very high by historical standards. So, this task demands that an investor beat the market by some margin. Though equities that can pull that off aren't easy to find, they exist.
