It's been a doozy of a year for cybersecurity company CrowdStrike (NASDAQ: CRWD). Through the first six months of the year, CrowdStrike stock rocketed upward by 50%. However, the vast majority of these gains were lost in July after a bug was identified in CrowdStrike's software -- a bug that produced widespread outages for thousands of its customers, and damage to the company's reputation.
Pan-European stock exchange operator Euronext NV is optimistic about the outlook for initial public offerings (IPOs) in 2025, driven by private equity funds turning to equity markets to exit their investments, according to a report by Bloomberg. Theres a real need for them to return capital to their investors, said Mathieu Caron, Euronexts head of primary markets.
I set financial goals for myself each year. That helps keep me on track with my long-term financial plan. It also allows me to adjust my strategy as things change. My long-term goal is to become financially independent by eventually generating enough passive income to cover my routine living expenses. Given that lofty aim, my financial goals for the upcoming year align with that desire to become more financially free.
Japans Pension Fund Association for Local Government Officials (Chikyoren) has selected four firms two from the US and two from Japan for a global private equity mandate, according to a report by Asia Asset Management. Additionally, it has appointed one firm each from the US and Japan for a global private debt mandate. The private equity mandate will be managed by US-based Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) and Hamilton Lane Advisors, alongside Japans Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank and Resona Bank.
Innovative growth stocks can deliver life-changing returns for patient investors who identify transformative companies early. The challenge lies in finding these opportunities before the broader market fully prices in their potential. Two emerging aerospace companies perfectly illustrate this dynamic. In 2024, one of these companies has rocketed higher in response to the achievement of multiple key milestones, while the other has only recently started to gain traction among investors.

Poised to end 2024 on a sour note, shares of Solid Power (NASDAQ: SLDP) are skidding today as investors seem energized about moving the solid-state battery stock out of their portfolios. The irony though is that the company hasn't reported any negative news which would be a catalyst for the sell-off. Instead, it seems investors may be overreacting to news from Solid Power's partner Ford (NYSE: F).

Artificial intelligence (AI) stocks were the gift that kept on giving throughout 2024. While Nvidia and Tesla were scorching hot, there's one company that outperformed all of its peers in spectacular fashion. Shares of AI software developer Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR) skyrocketed by 357% in 2024 -- handily topping the S&P 500 , Nasdaq Composite , and every single other stock in the S&P 500 index.
The healthcare sector has long been a sanctuary for income investors seeking stability and growth. Within this realm, Bristol-Myers Squibb (NYSE: BMY) and Merck & Co. (NYSE: MRK) stand out for their combination of above-average dividend yields and proven business models. These industry titans have consistently rewarded shareholders through market cycles while maintaining robust drug-development pipelines.

The year 2024 was a breakout for enterprise software company Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR). Some of the more notable highlights include gaining inclusion into the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 indicies. Moreover, Palantir stock gained over 357% in 2024 -- making it the top-performing stock in the S&P 500 by a mile. The biggest tailwind fueling Palantir's growth is, by far, artificial intelligence (AI).

One of the most important lessons you can learn as a long-term investor is to know what's driving the market. In 2023 and 2024, megacap growth stocks have been primarily responsible for taking the broader indexes to new heights. Folks who don't want to ride the growth stock wave have benefited from attractive interest rates from Treasury bills, certificates of deposit, or high-yield savings accounts.
Savvy investors like stock splits for two reasons: They make stocks more accessible by reducing the share price, and they can be roundabout indicators of high-quality companies. That's because forward stock splits are only necessary after significant share price appreciation, which rarely happens to sub-par companies. Not surprisingly, a few hedge fund billionaires in the third quarter bought shares of Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) and Arista Networks (NYSE: ANET).
There's always something new and shiny catching the attention of investors in crypto. Technology evolves, narratives shift seemingly overnight, but one thing remains constant: Great products and technology will attract users. In 2024, one of the most hyped projects embodying these traits launched -- Hyperliquid (CRYPTO: HYPE). This protocol challenges the conventional design of decentralized finance (DeFi) by offering a scalable, transparent, and user-friendly trading experience.
The pharmaceutical industry can be a tough business. Companies must innovate constantly to stay relevant because patents protecting their proprietary drugs expire. Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) , a longtime stalwart in the pharmaceutical sector, enjoyed a growth spurt during the COVID-19 pandemic due to its Comirnaty vaccine and Paxlovid treatment. Sales and earnings have plunged since the pandemic ended, sending Pfizer stock down over 50% off its former high.
Some of the hottest stocks of 2024 may surprise you. A few more than 100 stocks with market caps north of $2 billion doubled over the past year. Some of the unlikely winners include a legacy airline, an online dating app, and even a pair of Argentinian banks. They're unlikely to repeat the feat in 2025, but I have some names that I think can double again in the coming year.
Finding a stock that can outright make you a millionaire isn't easy. However, they're out there. A $10,000 investment in Nvidia a decade ago is now worth $2.72 million. And $10,000 invested 12 years ago in Tesla is now worth more than $2 million. These companies were right under most investors' noses for a long time, but few people bought and held them through the ups and downs.

It's been a great couple of years for investors holding U.S. equities. From the end of 2022 through Dec. 27, the benchmark S&P 500 index soared 55.5%. While stock returns have been terrific, new investors seeking passive income learned the hard way that dividend yields fall when stock prices rise. The average stock in the benchmark index offers an unappealing 1.3% yield at recent prices.
In 2024, the market saw individual technology stocks soar or crash based on the perception of their artificial intelligence (AI) prospects. The trick for investors is to find under-the-radar AI winners before the market does, or to pounce on long-term winners after sell-offs when doubts creep into their stories. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now.
Many investors turn to dividend stocks as their primary wealth-building strategy. This approach can be problematic when investors focus solely on high yields while overlooking the importance of total returns. The challenges become even more apparent when investors avoid reinvesting their dividends, missing out on the powerful effect of compounding where dividend payments generate additional shares that produce even more dividends over time.

Gallup earlier this year reported that 80% of surveyed adults worry Social Security will not be available when they retire. Similarly, Nationwide Retirement Institute reported that 72% of surveyed adults are concerned Social Security will run out of funding in their lifetime, and 23% believe they will never see a dime in benefits. In both cases, the survey questions were designed to assess how well Americans understand the impending insolvency of the Social Security trust fund.

There aren't too many stocks on the market that have gained 230,000% since their initial public offerings, especially without dividends and in less than 30 years. But the stocks that have done it are usually global giants that are settling down into value territory and starting up dividends. Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) stands out because it has delivered this whopping gain and still has a long road ahead.
After years of underperformance, 3M (NYSE: MMM) stock delivered a respectable performance to investors in 2024 -- gaining some 17%. But what will 2025 bring? And more importantly, what is the best way for investors to monitor progress at 3M? No one, least of all CEO Bill Brown, believes 3M is a quick-fix situation. Still, Brown's restructuring plan alerts investors to some significant actions and key operational metrics to monitor, that may ultimately improve the company's headline numbers over
NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE) is offering investors a dividend yield of roughly 2.8%. The average utility stock, using the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF , is yielding a touch under 2.7%. From this perspective, you might think that NextEra Energy is a run of the mill utility stock. Nothing could be further from the truth. Here's why dividend growth investors should like what they see with NextEra Energy.

SoundHound AI (NASDAQ: SOUN) is a leading developer of conversational artificial intelligence (AI). Its stock came public in 2022, but it flew under the radar until February 2024, which is when Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) revealed that it had acquired a small stake in the company. SoundHound stock quadrupled shortly after that news hit the wires, and it's now sitting on a tenfold gain for 2024 on the final trading day of the year.
