How much someone receives in Social Security retirement benefits depends largely on their career earnings. Broadly speaking, the more someone earns, the more they can expect to receive in Social Security (up to a certain point). The problem with that, however, is that not everyone has a career of suitable earnings. Some people spend time at home raising children; some people have inconsistent work histories for whatever reason; and some people work in lower-paying jobs that don't contribute much

The recent market correction has brought on significant investor pain. With the market suffering the worst one-day drop since 2022 on March 10, buying may be the last thing some investors want to do. Nonetheless, the market has rebounded from every previous downturn in history and will almost certainly recoup the losses from this one at some point. Knowing that, investors should look at what stocks they might want to buy amid the correction.

It's difficult to buy great growth stocks at a discount. That's especially true when the market already expects rapid growth to occur in the near future. But Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID) shares could be an exception to the rule. Over the next 12 months, analysts expect Lucid's revenue to grow by nearly 100%. Yet due to some short-term challenges, shares have lost nearly 30% of their value since the year began, pushing the stock to its lowest levels in years according to many valuation metrics.

Put your money to work, sit back, and reap the rewards. These are the primary steps involved in generating passive income. Investing in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) offers an easy way to follow this process. Vanguard is one of the top ETF managers known for its low costs. While many of the company's 90 ETFs are good alternatives for investors seeking passive income, a handful offers especially attractive yields.

XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) just experienced a catalyst that is likely to give it a new and enduring tailwind. Unlike tech upgrades or adding new users , the coin now has its foot in the door of a key location in the cryptocurrency industry. And none of its competitors have the same advantage. Here's what's going on and why it's so positive for the coin's holders.

The benchmark S&P 500 index is off to a rocky start in 2025, with a year-to-date loss of over 5% already. However, some stocks are bucking the recent market turbulence. Shares of Zscaler (NASDAQ: ZS) have climbed nearly 10% so far this year, partly on the back of a strong financial report for its fiscal 2025 second quarter (which ended Jan. 31).

Stock market corrections (a decline of 10% or more from the recent high) can be a gift to dividend-seeking investors. As stock prices fall, dividend yields rise, enabling investors to lock in higher yields on many top dividend stocks. I've been capitalizing on the recent stock market correction by buying more shares of many of my favorite dividend stocks.

Shopify (NYSE: SHOP) may have minted some millionaires by now. It's been a public company for nearly 10 years, and if you'd invested $10,000 on its first day of trading, you'd have more than $350,000 today. But even though Shopify isn't a new company, in many ways, it's just starting to take off. E-commerce is growing as a percentage of retail sales, and a lot of it is happening on Shopify's platform.

The initial public offering (IPO) market has been ice-cold since 2021. In 2020 and 2021, we saw a deluge of companies entering the public markets, especially via a boom in special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs). Many of these ended up being poorly run businesses, and some were even frauds. Ever since then, there has been a mere trickle of new stock listings, as start-ups decided to remain private.

Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) and XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) might be a bit safer than some crypto assets, but it isn't as though they're rock solid when things are falling apart. As the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 enter correction territory, investors are starting to worry more about a potential market crash. And some are pondering which of these two assets would hold up better in a crash and which would be worth buying in the aftermath?
Coming into 2025 the S&P 500 had just two down years out of the past 15: 2010 +14.8% 2011 +2.1% 2012 +15.9% 2013 +32.2% 2014 +13.5% 2015 +1.4% 2016 +11.8% 2017 +21.6% 2018 -4.2% 2019 +31.2% 2020 +18.0% 2021 +28.5% 2022 -18.0% 2023 +26.1% 2024 +24.9% We were all probably a little spoiled. Regardless of the reason for the recent swoon, we were due.
Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) was able to ride the artificial intelligence (AI) wave kicked off by ChatGPT in late 2022 and dominate the market for AI accelerators, partly because the company had spent years building a strong foundation in accelerated computing. Nvidia's GPUs are useful not only for AI workloads, but also across academia and industry for running simulations and doing other computing-intensive tasks.

There's no two ways about it. Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has been the proverbial talk of the town since 2023, shortly after OpenAI launched ChatGPT to start what would turn into a heated race for dominance of the artificial intelligence (AI) market. While Nvidia had been using its graphics processing technology for AI purposes well before that, this was a clear growth catalyst.

If you've been an investor for a while, you've likely heard Warren Buffett's advice: "You can't buy what is popular and do well." And his point is well taken. Plenty of stocks are overvalued simply because everyone seems willing to pay a premium price to own them. Don't be so committed to a general tip, however, that you look right past a solid wealth-building prospect staring you right in the face.

The potential for artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the fortunes of leading businesses has been a huge catalyst for the stock market over the last few years. IDC anticipates spending on AI, including infrastructure and business services, to reach $632 billion by 2028. AI promises to bring greater efficiency to business operations and labor productivity, but it will require substantial investment in advanced chips to make AI smarter.
In the past couple of decades, the stock market has had a tremendous run. That tailwind has been the perfect recipe for the creation of numerous trillion-dollar companies. These businesses are in an elite category. Investors are certainly familiar with a smaller innovative, industry-leading enterprise that currently has a market cap of $384 billion (as of March 13).
Things have changed rapidly for Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) stock in 2025. Just a few weeks ago, I assessed whether shares were worth buying after losing a fifth of their value this year. I concluded that buying the dip didn't make sense; the valuation relative to the company's underlying fundamentals simply seemed too high. But what about now? As of this writing, shares are down about 39% year to date.
Stock market sell-offs are often great opportunities to buy dividend stocks. That's because dividend yields move in the opposite direction of stock prices. So, with the stock market recently correcting (defined as a decline of 10% or more from the peak) , dividend yields are now higher. One of the easiest ways to capitalize on this opportunity is to buy the Schwab U.S.
It's fair to say the broad market and "Magnificent Seven" stocks have seen better days. The Nasdaq Composite recently entered correction territory, and the index is down 8.1% year to date. Among the Magnificent Seven stocks -- Apple , Nvidia , Microsoft , Amazon , Meta , Tesla , and Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) -- only Meta is still in the green so far this year.
The stock market is in a bit of a tailspin of late as investors worry about the future of the economy. It can be a great idea to buy stocks on weakness if you're investing for the long term, but that doesn't mean that every struggling stock is going to recover. Three stocks that are down big this year but that investors should think twice about buying right now are SoundHound AI (NASDAQ: SOUN) , Maravai LifeSciences (NASDAQ: MRVI) , and Victoria's Secret (NYSE: VSCO).
AST SpaceMobile 's (NASDAQ: ASTS) stock took a big bounce after the company reported fourth-quarter results last week. At one point, shares of the satellite communications start-up were up 32% from their pre-earnings price, and even after Monday's steep price decline, they're still higher than they were before the report came out. So that means the news was good, right?
