Demand for plant-based meat in the U.S. is weakening following a pandemic-era boom. Not helping the situation is a proliferation of plant-based meat brands. Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat (NASDAQ: BYND) are the best-known options, but a typical supermarket now has multiple other brands for sale. Beyond Meat has not fared well in this highly competitive environment.
A lot of investors have abandoned international diversification (or at least strongly considered it) in recent years. I understand why this is happening. The U.S. stock market has destroyed all comers ever since the Great Financial Crisis ended. The past few years have been challenging for most real estate investment trusts (REITs). Higher interest rates have weighed on real estate values to increase their income yields above those of lower-risk income investments like bonds. In addition, higher rates have made it more expensive for REITs to borrow money to fund development projects and acquisitions.
